I had some issues with web-sockets disconnecting when the app is in the background and the need to frequently send location data from the device even if it's backgrounded.
Based on some researching I found the flutter team praising a way to make background process work using native code for both platforms IOS and Android. But surely there has to be a way to make it work with just Dart. So I tried Isolates as shown below:
import 'dart:async';
import 'dart:isolate';
import 'package:driver_app/home.dart';
import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
void callBack(SendPort sendPort) {
Timer.periodic(
Duration(seconds: 1),
(timer) {
sendPort.send(timer.tick);
},
);
}
void main() async {
WidgetsFlutterBinding.ensureInitialized();
ReceivePort _receivePort = ReceivePort();
await Isolate.spawn(callBack, _receivePort.sendPort);
_receivePort.listen((message) {
print("New Message: ($message)");
});
runApp(Home());
}
I still can't confirm if this is a good practice for my intentions if not the best, may you confirm if it's correct?
