Does code navigation (specifically - go to function definition - F12) require an extension in VSCode for python when using Remote-SSH?

I run VScode on Windows10 and navigate python code. However, F12 doesnt take me to the function definition. I've tried the following so far:

When the python script (singe file), is physically located on my Windows machine, the following works as expected:

  1. Autocompletion (for any method already defined in the file)
  2. Code navigation on pressing F12 (for any method already defined in the file).

If the same python file is opened over a Remote-SSH connection to a Centos7 machine, then the following works as expected:

  1. Autocompletion (for any method already defined in the file)

However, the following does nothing:

  1. Code navigation on pressing F12 (for any method already defined in the file).

Note: I believe I've disabled all plugins except for "Remote - SSH".

I have updated my VScode this morning to the latest
