led - Scrolling text for WS2812b in Python

I've recently purchased WS2812b-LEDs and control them via Raspberry Pi. So far I've searched through the internet but could not find any algorithm, which translates text into pixels, for a scrolling display. My LEDs work based on the packages here https://github.com/jgarff/rpi_ws281x/ The examples work all very well and i use PWM (GPIO 18) to connect the LEDs to the Raspberry Pi 3B+. However, they are all based on LED-Strips rather than matrices. Now, has anyone worked with the repository and developed functionalities to display text? Worst case ontario, i have to develop the logic myself, but it seems cumbersome to define arrays for every character and then to find a logic, that leds them scroll through the LED-matrix.

Any help appreciated. Thank you so much!
