function xmlToArray($xml_string)
{
    $doc = @simplexml_load_string($xml_string);
    if ($doc) {
        $xml = simplexml_load_string($xml_string);
        $json = json_encode($xml);
        return json_decode($json, true);
    }
}

then use like $array = xmlToArray($xmlData)
