The easiest way that you can do that is by using Optional Chaining

function testFun(value, defaultvalue) {
  if (!value) {
    console.log(defaultvalue)
  } else {
    console.log(value)
  }
}

let testVar
testFun(testVar, testVar?.field1?.value || 'Other default value')
