entity framework 6 - ora-16550: truncated result: Oracle/EF treats negative sign as an additional precision in numbers

Question

I have an Oracle table column defined as NUMBER(9,6) to store Longitude. So values such as -123.123456 are valid entries. However, I get ora-16550: truncated result when I insert or update it with such value.

I test with 123.123456 and -12.12345 and these values worked. Apparently, the negative sign is being treated as an additional character and causing it to fail.

Here's what I think is happening under the hood.

DECLARE p0 CHAR(9) = '-123.456789'
UPDATE blah 
Boom!!

That negative sign probably caused the truncation. Is there fix?
