converting string to date omits my data in R

I wasa trying to clean date, and exact datewith date. first I have sublseted the date to t he location, to extract with certain time period, I converted the data

:
1-1-2021
1-1-2021
1-1-2021
1-1-2021
29-9-2020
29-9-2020
29-9-2020
29-9-2020
.
.
.

to date using as.Date() europe_data$date<-as.Date(europe_data$date ,"%d-%m-%y"). but after this line of code I lost the data in time where in year 2021. Is because I messed the pattern or this function does omit some data?

thank you.

This should work, as.Date(europe_data$date ,"%d-%m-%Y")
