spring jms - Overriding a method in DefaultMessageListenerContainer (JMS)

Question

The method I want to override is refreshConnectionUntilSuccessful. This method handles shutting down the connection to the messaging queue after several failed attempts. I want to have a trigger when it gets into the block if(!applyBackOffTime(execution)){} so that I know when it stops attempting to reconnect. The only solution for this trigger I have found is to copy the parent method and add a trigger myself in a child class. Is there a way I can detect this happening without doing this?
