Tensorflow tf.data.Dataset core dump error when downloading mnist data set

Question

Versions:

TensorFlow version = 2.4.0 Tensorflow-dataset version = 4.2.0

Code:

import tensorflow as tf
import tensorflow_datasets as tfds
import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

print(tf.__version__)
print(tfds.__version__)

mnist = tfds.builder('mnist')
mnist.download_and_prepare()

Error message:

Dl Completed...: 100%| Dl Completed...: 100% Segmentation fault (core dumped)

ls ~/tensorflow_datasets/mnist/

I tried downloading the cats_vs_dogs data set and it downloaded fine. So it is not an issue of disk space or my machine (I think)
