react select - Custom Creatable Behavior

Question

I am trying to use react-select Creatable with the ability to paste multiple items that are delimited by commas (working) or line feeds (not working). I have implemented by using the onInputChange property to gather the text that has been typed or pasted. This takes a function which splits the input by comma or line feed and sets the state for the control value. Pasting commas works as expected, but pasting line feeds are converted to spaces (perhaps also as expected).

Is there a way I can have the Creatable component use a textarea or some element that the browser will not convert line feeds to spaces?
