Setting HTML DOM Date Input Attributes to PHP variables

Basically I want to set the min and max attributes of an HTML date input to be PHP variables. These will be changing monthly.

Currently the date input look like this:

$mileageTable .= "<tr id='mileageRow'><td><input id='mileageDate' name='mileageDate_0' type='date' min='".$min."' max='".$max."' required></input></td>

The $min and $max variables are dates formatted like 'Y/m/d'

$updatedPeriod = getPeriod();
$min = $updatedPeriod[0]->format('Y/m/d');
$max = $updatedPeriod[1]->format('Y/m/d');

When I replace the $min with say '2021-01-26' it works as expected, however the PHP variable does not. Echoing the $min variable gives me '2021-01-26'
