thumbnails - How to determine which image dimensions are actually in use in the website frontend

I have got a commercial template for WordPress.

The template is designed to cover a wide range of application. Therefore, on upload of a single media file it generates 58 (!) different sizes and image sections.

Actually in use maybe 10, possibly 15. The rest of the various thumbnails are sucking up server space.

How can I determine, which graphic dimensions are actually used in the website frontend?

How can I limit the thumbnail generation just to those dimensions/sections?
