r - Plotly produces inaccurate mesh in 3D plot

I'm trying to create a mesh 3d plot using plotly in r. The package seems to be working well except that the mesh surface appears to be interpolating between data at the edge of the plot. This is creating 'walls' which do not reflect actual data. In the attached photo, the back 'wall' marked with a red 'x' should not be there. Plotly seems to be interpolating between two data points marked with red arrows. Is there any way that I can remove this wall? 3d plot

pTA <- plot_ly(byWeek_TA_only, x = ~intensity, y = ~mean_degree_days, z = ~z, type = "mesh3d", intensity = ~z)
