firebase code for sign out to access a home page of a web app is not working. See the attached code.

var signOut = document.getElementById("signOut")

signOut.addEventListener("click", function(e){
  e.preventDefault();

  firebase.auth().signOut()
    .then(function(){
      window.location.assign("./index.html")
      //console.log("signed  successfully");
    })
    .catch(function(err) {
      var errCode = err.code;
      var errMessage = err.message;
