java - Assign percentage based width/height to a BorderPane's region

Question

I tried to give the border pane's left region 20% of the total window size with this code in my css, but it doesn't seem to work. Ideally I want the center region to have the remaining 80%. How can I do that?

#externalBorderPane.left {
    -fx-pref-width:  20%
}
