Azure AD SAML - use email, not uuid

Question

I set up SAML in Azyre AD and all is working well. But in my application the username is the email address ; the response of SAML is the user id, so I have to query the email address of the user in my php script that is responsible for the auth.

is it possible to return the email address instead of the user id ? does it have to do with the "Optional claims" ?
