How to connect switch and option list in Laravel?

Question

I have a select list on an HTML page and I want to change the content of the page, based on which option is selected from the list. This is how my list looks like. Basically, if last week is selected I want to display different stuff on the page, if last year is selected different stuff and like this. Here is a code:

        <option selected>Pick a period</option>
        <option value="last_week">Last week</option>
        <option value="last_month">Last year</option>
        <option value="last_six_month">Last six months</option>
        <option value="last_year">Last year</option>
        <option value="all">All</option>
</select>

I have to use the switch method as I think and I need to know which option is selected from the list.
