amazon web services - How to ensure no Race condition occurred for Distributed (multi Instance) APP when reading from S3 bucket

Question

I have a requirement where Distributed (multiple instances) APP need to read from S3 buckets (which contains multiple files).

How to ensure no race condition occurred b/w instances to read file from S3 bucket?

i.e. How to ensure no other instance reads the same file?

(Similar to Kafka grouping concept).
